95th Avenue Rehabilitation Update

Strathearn is not on the neighbourhood renewal list for 2009 and there is no indication that it will be on anytime in the foreseeable future. Here's the latest word from the city, February 10,2009:

Hi Marcel

Thank you for your email. I have to apologise [sic] for the delay in getting back to you.

Since our last contact, many things have happened. The downturn of the economy has come into play and the staging of the redevelopment of the Strathearn Apartments site may be carried out at a slower pace then anticipated. We do have the plan from the consultant.

The Strathearn CTMP approved by City Council in July 5, 2006, stated:

"That the administration work with the Strathearn community and developers to prepare a plan for 95 Avenue to:  a) mitigate transportation impacts associated with the proposedredevelopment of the Strathearn Heights property; and

b) accommodate all transportation modes using the roadway."

We are committed to working with the community to mitigate transportation impacts associated with the redevelopment of the Strathearn Heights site. For redevelopment to occur, there are still several issues related to the proposed roadways within the site that have to be resolved first. Since we have not resolved those issues, and since the downturn of the economy may affect the staging of the development of the site we have held back contacting you and your community.

A major issue has to do with The EMS's (Emergency Medical Services) concerns regarding the proposed widths of the roadways within the Strathearn Heights site. Their concern is that they may not be able to manoeuvre the proposed roadways with the equipment they use. We are currently in contact with the EMS to resolve that issue.

If you would like to meet and discuss the above, please let me know and I will set up a meeting.

Thanks.
